Shizune's parents are both doctors who, at the time of her birth, had just flwon out of South Africa where they had studied malaria cases and were working on both treating the patients and forming a cure with a legion of other doctors. They moved to Korea, Shizune's mother's birth country, and lived there for four years until her parents moved back to Africa to continue their studies and left her in the care of her uncle, Dan; a Hapkido master.

Shizune spent a good portion of her childhood practically living in a training hall; learning medicine through letters from her mother, who wanted for her to be a doctor, and martial arts from Dan, who wanted her to be herself. When she was fifteen years old, Dan was called to train in Japan by an old friend of his, so he and Shizune picked up and relocated to Osaka, living in a modest apartment just down the street from the small dojo that Dan's friend had just established. While she already had begun training under Dan in the art of Hapkido, his old comrade began to train her in the art of Taekkyon, and though her training in that art was never quite considered complete, she became one of his ore advanced students.

It was in Japan that Shizune finally began taking an interest in medicine; the extensive knowledge of thousands of asian heaing methods leading her to an interest in acupuncture. While Shizune studied several different aspects of medicine, acupuncture became one of her favorites, mainly because she'd already developed a technique that she could apply the use of needles to; and, thusly, she became fascinated with the fact that needles could not only be used for fighting, but for intense healing and spiritual relief, as well.

Life went well for the next couple of years; Shizune continued her studies and her training, as Dan continued to teach her, even after meeting a young woman by the name of Tsunade and falling head-over-heels in love with her. Shizune looked up to Tsunade for her confidence and pride, though she did disapprove of Tsunade's drinking habits, nor her random, often outright insane stunts and gambling antics. Still, she did like Tsunade, and it took all that she had to contain herself when Dan confessed that he planned to propose to Tsunade, only two weeks after Shizune's 17th birthday.

Shizune could only anticipate Dan's happiness if Tsunade accepted, and it was that same anticipation that drowned out a horrible feeling of fear as she watched Dan drive off to Tsunade's apartment one Monday night.

He never made it to her place.

The car crash was fast and brutal--the police claimed that Dan had died instantly, his body mangled within the crushed driver's seat of the car when they arrived. She attended his funeral--closed casket--and was silent for the entire duration of it. She lost all contact with Tsunade afterwards, and took up Dan's position at his friend's dojo, continuing to study medicine and eventually entering university.

It would take six years for her to learn how to cope with her uncle's passing. Finally ready to move out of their old apartment, Shizune began looking for jobs outside of the area, confident that her old Tekkyon master--his training hall now expanded and well-known--could very well handle things on his own; as she could for herself.

Shizune finally decided to take up a Nursing job at Gotei Academy, finding it fit to everything she could do; medicine, healing, teaching, and fighting. As an RA and the School Nurse, Shizune is both well-organized and strict, but tolerant and caring for students, despite how insane they may drive her. She carries a strong belief in precision and level-headedness, and for this reason, is often the designated driver at many of the faculty parties. Despite all of her organization and duty, Shizune is most well-known for being a the spaz of the Gotei Academy, and tends to freak out at the smallest flaw in certain situations.

Shizune almost strictly uses Hapkido, though, in desperate times, has been known to use kicks specifically in the form of a more traditional and lesser-known martial art, Taekkyon. Shizune's moves are nimble, concentrated and fluid--and though they could be fatal, she has never gone in for a killing blow in any fight. Shizune is also known for almost always fighting in high heels, unless it is forbidden in a fight.

Shizune's Signature Technique is called Capsized Piston; a series of hits to each pressure point (usually straight strikes to them by hand, but Shizune has been known to use needles in serious fights to paralyze the opponent quickly), then a solid axe-kick to knock the opponent out of the ring.
